Comp Season Condiments

Over the last year and a half since I began following a comp diet, I've discovered how incredibly essential a good condiment is. When you eat egg whites, chicken breasts, tilapia, and flank steak over and over and over again, you must get creative without causing problems to your changing physique. Here are my fav condiments:

1. Spicy Brown Mustard
2. Jalapeno Mustard
3. Yellow Mustard (heck, any kind of mustard, except the mustard with added sugar, mayo, etc.)
4. Good strong black pepper (I'm loving the Worchestshire flavor of this McCormick brand; great on the flank steak.)
5. Jalapeno peppers (I top all my salads with these lil gems)
6. Banana peppers (also great in salads)
7. Spray butter (some competitors cut this out, but spray butter does not affect my physique one bit; still, I keep it to a minimum)
8. Pico de gallo (onions, tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, and cilantro; some of the store brands are loaded with sodium, so I like to buy the freshly made kind or make it myself)
9. Splenda (couldn't live without it; maybe someday I'll go totally clean and eliminate it, but while in comp prep, there's no way I'm throwing out my Splenda.)
10. Cinnamon (I sprinkle this on my oatmeal, on my sweet potatoes, and occasionally in my coffee)

Great condiments, even for a non-competitor. Ditch the sugar laden ketchup and BBQ sauces and get creative. It really works!!

No Frank's hot sauce?! Blasphemy! Just Kidding, but I am surprised to see it didn't make the short list. :)

Hi Kim! I will look for those when I go shopping, one of my favorites right now is cocoa powder in my oats and sometimes my coffee too. I love peppers as well, you just reminded me I need to pick up some more. I would love to be able to read your clean recipe blog, I am always interested in finding more clean recipes!
Thanks!

I am getting so excited for you this weekend!

Love all the condiments you suggested, spicy brown mustard is my favorite, and I LOVE putting banana peppers and jalapenos on stuff. I use Sandwhich Pal brand jalapeno mustard, it's got the best flavor IMO. Too funny - as far as the splenda, I hear you on not giving it up! I have cut back greatly on it, but I still would never want to be 100% clean of it. I add it with cinnamon to my egg whites and it tastes like french toast! (to a comp. brain and tummy anyway).

I bet your getting so excited...
I have a really great feeling about this and believe that I will be staying tuned ALL DAy for updates. Have you set your phone up for mobile blogger? It only takes a second and you can send a text message straight to your blog!!

Hey Kim~

Awesome list.

Oh, I'm sure you already know this but just in case.."I Can't Believe it's not butter spray" There are over 900 calories and 80 grams of fat per bottle. The company gets away with listing it as 5 calories per serving since there are thousands of servings per boottle.

Power to you if you can keep using it..i really REALLY miss mine:(

Nice. Condiments really make the meal. I like hummus, homemade guacamole, and baba gannoush. They make everything taste wonderful. Good luck with comps!

Frank's Red Hot? Of course! Lol But in limited quantities. Sodium does affect me, so I have to be careful w/Frank's.

Great suggestions, ladies, on condiments!! OMGosh, I'm totally excited about trying cinnamon and splenda in my egg whites this morning! Needed more ideas for egg whites, and since I'm eating 6 egg whites every morning until show time, this will be fantastic!

Thx, Bec, for the mobile blog suggestion! I just signed up! You can expect lots of text/blogs from me throughout this weekend. :o)

Seriously? You have a good feeling about this weekend? COOL!!!

RE: Spray butter. Yup, it's not perfect, and that's why I limit it. For some reason, however, it doesn't effect me. I have read that "Smart Squeeze" is a good alternative and is truly fat-free/calorie-free, but I haven't tried it yet.

You all are AWESOME!! If only I could pack you all up and take you with me!! Wouldn't that be fun???

Awesome list, Kim! Love the flavored smoked pepper. But I don't eat banana peppers, jalapenos and mustard =( Sniff. I'm a ketchup girl *cringe* I know I should totally eliminate it from my diet (again!). Like most of you, I can't live W/O Splenda. Anyway, let me try that egg whites with cinnamon and Splenda.

ANd yeah, feel free to pack us with you. THAT WOULD BE SOO CRAZY FUN! SO EXCITED FOR YOU KIM! Cannot wait to see your rockin' competition BODY! w00000t! It's going to be hard-core, for sure! Miss yah, Kim! *hugs*
